Albany Community Mental Health

Mental Health Service

WACHS Great Southern Mental Health Service (GSMHS) is a specialist service that provides acute mental health care for inpatient and community clients in the Great Southern region.

The community teams are located in Albany and Katanning and consist of triage, adult, older adult, youth, child and adolescent teams, all staffed by mental health professionals.

GSMHS employs Aboriginal mental health workers who assist the clinical team to provide culturally appropriate treatment.

Referrals are accepted from GPs and other health professionals. If urgent, clients may phone or self-present to Community Mental Health within office hours.

Support for people living with a mental illness

  • Single or Double units (double units have own ensuite bathroom)
  • Recovery coaches support with activities of daily living such as: housekeeping, budgeting, cooking, attending activities
  • Instrumental ADL’s such as bill paying, shopping, social outings, attending appointments.
  • The CSRU is about addressing basic needs for the person to feel equipped to deal with everyday life.
  • Linking in with GP’s, counsellors, employment services and more

Eligibility: Diagnosed and persistent mental illness, aged between 18 – 65 years

Neami National

Mental Health Service

Neami Albany is a short-term, mental health residential recovery service that offers either step up support (for people at risk of being admitted to a hospital) or a step down in support (for people leaving hospital but need extra support before moving back into the community).

This service is not a replacement for a hospital stay but can prevent the need to go to hospital when people are aware that they’re becoming unwell.

Referrals can be made via GPs, Clinical Case Managers or Primary Health Providers.
