Broome Youth and Families Hub

Family Support

The Reconnect youth support officers provide support, informal counselling and preventative steps to address issues relating to homelessness. This is achieved through building positive, mutually-respectful relationships both individually and in group settings. Young people aged 12 -18 years old who are at risk of homelessness or who are homeless.

BYFH engage two staff members to work with parents and families with young children. They provide a point of contact and a source of information for parents and expectant parents. They help promote the development of positive parent/child relationships through education, practical support and role modelling. They can also help with advocacy and referral information and pathways.

Kimberley Sexual Abuse Prevention and Support Service

Family Support

The Kimberley Sexual Abuse Prevention and Support Service offers free counselling to child and adult victims of sexual abuse and assault. Counselling takes place in a safe environment, where victims are able to comfortably work through trauma with highly qualified counsellors. Counsellors also deliver group work programs and community education initiatives around sexual assault and abuse to help recognise the symptoms and effects of sexual abuse against children, and how to provide support for healing.

Mums and Dads Forever

Family Support

 Mums and Dads Forever focusses on assisting families to reduce conflict and develop more positive ways to communicate so that children are not “caught in the middle”. The program helps parents understand how conflict impacts children and young people so that parents can support their children through the separation process. Run over eight two-hour group sessions, the program covers:

  • The separation process
  • Managing emotions
  • Conflict management and effective communication
  • Impact of separation and conflict on children
  • Setting boundaries
  • Understanding oneself and own and children’s needs

Family Relationship Centre

Family Support

Family Relationship Centres provide assistance to families at any stage of their lives. The Centres are for all families in need of information and support in relation to family relationships and for those families who are  separated we offer family dispute resolution services. The staff assist families in many ways such as:

  • Providing information about family relationships, separation and connecting people with services that are are appropriate for their individual needs
  • Providing Family Dispute Resolution where parents/families can discuss issues relating to their children and develop parenting plans that are in the best interests of their children
  • Assisting parents and families to work towards improving their communication and reducing their conflict
  • Assisting parents with enhancing knowledge and skills to assist both themselves and their children with separation issues
  • Providing child-focussed and child-inclusive practices and assisting parents to focus on the needs of children

Family and Domestic Violence Coordinated Response Service

Family Support

The Family and Domestic Violence Coordinated Response Service works in partnership with the Department for Child Protection and the WA Police to improve the safety of child and adult victims of family and domestic violence. The service uses a collaborative approach that focuses on timely and early intervention following a police call out to a domestic violence incident.

QLife provides Australia-wide anonymous, LGBTI peer support and referral for people wanting to talk about a range of issues including sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships.
