Legal Advice and Support

The Aboriginal Family Law Service provides free legal and community education services for all Aboriginal people, including children, who have experienced family and domestic violence or sexual assault, including men, women and children. They provide culturally secure services are delivered from six regional locations – Broome, Carnarvon, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Kununurra and Port Hedland. They advocate on law and policy reforms that support the wellbeing of Aboriginal victim survivors and help to prevent family violence and make our communities safer.

Aboriginal Legal Service

Legal Advice and Support

The Aboriginal Legal Service provide legal aid services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout Western Australia.

ALSWA provides legal advice during weekday office hours for Family Law issues about children. Lawyers also represent parents in protection proceedings in the Children’s Courts throughout WA and at times, in the Family Court of WA about parenting issues.

ALSWA family law staff make sure courts that deal with family law and protection issues know about cultural matters that apply, such as communication styles, how children are raised, and the importance of children and family in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Family Advocacy Support

Legal Advice

FASS provide support and legal help if you are affected by domestic and family violence and have a family law issue.
They can help you if you have experienced domestic and family violence or someone says you have used violence.
The Family Advocacy and Support Service lawyers can assist by:
  • Arrangements for children
  • Domestic Violence Orders (known as Family Violence Restraining Orders or FVROs)
  • Property after separation
  • Divorce
  • Child Support
  • Child protection
  • Applying for legal aid
  • Some urgent court matters
The Family Advocacy and Support Service support worker can assist by:
  • Help you plan for your safety
  • Talk to the Family Courts about your safety at court
  • Give you information and support during your family law case
  • Help with practical problems like Centrelink and housing
  • Advocate for you with services like police
  • Connect you with men’s behaviour change programs or other services
