Counselling Service

The Boab Health Youth Counselling program provides individual counselling and family support for young people living in Kununurra. To be eligible for counselling the young person must be 11 to 18 years old, at risk of developing a mental health condition and be enrolled at a Kununurra school. Our youth counselling service utilises effective and appropriate youth specific modalities, a range of creative therapeutic engagement tools, as well as relevant group based options to compliment the individual based services.

The ABLe program aims to improve the independence, participation and long-term lifetime wellbeing of people living in Wyndham who are affected by mental health issues, which includes issues with drug and alcohol misuse and/or gambling. Child Witness Service: Kununurra

Support Service

The Child Witness Service helps children and young people under 18 years of age who may need to give evidence in court. The children involved can be victims or witnesses to any criminal charge, in any court.

The Child Witness Service provides practical information and helps children and young people emotionally prepare for court. Support is provided on an individual basis. Evidence is never discussed.

The Child Witness Service does not provide counselling. However, referrals can be made to appropriate agencies when additional support is required.

The Child Witness Service aims to:

  • Reduce trauma for children giving evidence in court by appropriate preparation and support.
  • Undertake assessments of a child’s needs in relation to giving evidence and advocate for the child to receive their entitlements under the legislation.
  • Work with the WA Police Force and the Director of Public Prosecutions to ensure a child witness and their family are kept fully informed about the progress of a case through the courts
  • Help a child witness prepare a victim impact statement, even if the child is not required to give evidence

  • A 13 -19 week residential rehabilitation service with case management
  • Men’s Shed: Provides men specific health and education programs
  • The Building Solid Families Program: Social and emotional wellbeing counselling service that also provides educational programs within the schools.
  • Sobering Up Shelter: A safe place for intoxicated community members to spend the night.
  • Night Patrol: Picks up intoxicated people from the street, taking them to a safe place
  • Binge Drinking Program. Targeted at youth through musical activities
  • Safe House: A place for women and children escaping family violence

The Kimberley Sexual Abuse Prevention and Support Service offers free counselling to child and adult victims of sexual abuse and assault. Counselling takes place in a safe environment, where victims are able to comfortably work through trauma with highly qualified counsellors. Family Relationship Centres provide assistance to families at any stage of their lives. The Centres are for all families in need of information and support in relation to family relationships and for those families who are  separated we offer family dispute resolution services.
